On a warm spring day, I was visiting the small community of Ccaccaccollo deep within the Sacred Valley in Peru. We were going to observe their women – skilled weavers – work the looms, weaving alpaca fibers and mixing dyes in cauldrons.
As we watch them work, a young Quechua boy comes skipping along a red, mud wall and for a split second, hangs frozen in time like an historic painting as he skips – a symbol of absolute joy within the simplest of living conditions. That moment of pure innocence and joy was forever ingrained in my mind as I watched him skip away. He instantly transported me back to my childhood when I found total excitement in the simplest things.
As I turned back to the women at the looms, their simple work became much more vibrant and extraordinary.

Lola-
Just voted for the photo on Conde Nast- it’s gorgeous. The rich color is so vibrant and the expresion on the boy’s face– that’s the moment!
Happiness!

Thanks ladies
Felicia – I used a Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens
A wonderful shot.
A truly beautiful post that evokes a swell of memory. My daughter is now 14, she never skips … she’s too busy being cool. But I remember a time when I use to delight in her skipping. She skipped all the time, no matter where we were. I use to think, how happy she must be, and be grateful for it.
If only it was hip to skip – what great therapy we’d have going on!
