Reality seems to have blurred lately. Sorting through stacks of three month old mail and subscriptions upon return, it all seems so far removed. This life I’d temporarily left behind.
Dust painted furniture. A full answering machine. An empty fridge.
Even the stifling humidity I meet in D.C. confuses my body which just the day before had been warming beneath a long black pea coat in Sweden. Earlier in Stockholm, we were meeting up for lunch (and 1 coffee
) with super-adorable Theresa and super-genius Jeff from Lives of Wander who are gearing up for an amazing round-the-world trip.
If you haven’t been following their journey, what are you waiting for? – http://livesofwander.com/feed. Will surely be living vicariously through them once they set off in October.
My jovial cabbie from El Salvador brings me up to speed as we slowing inch home while in D.C. traffic. Besides the new train wreck reality series – Election 2008 – nothing has changed.
In a span of weeks, I had traveled three continents while working remotely 9 to 5 most of the time. In retrospect, my body was on autopilot – adjusting to various time zones and going through the daily motions in a semi-conscious state.
Finally sinking exhausted into the musty sofa, I began to wonder – could I actually be all traveled out?
Could constant travel, with all its raw, invigorating rewards be actually tiring? Deducing that the additional layer of work was the key draining factor, l immediately dismissed this impetuous thought.
Now anchored down for a little bit, I’m currently focusing on parsing through all those impressions gained while on the road and finishing up pieces.
And then in four months, I head out again…

Lola- I hope, for our sake, that you’re not traveled out. And I don’t think you are, if I can be so presumptuous. I simply think that you’ve been juggling so many different balls and that you’re ready to find the one to carry that really speaks to you. At least that’s what I hope!
Julie – You couldn’t be more right!
Now is the time to really focus and choose.
We’re so happy we were able to meet up with you before you left! I hope you’ve at least found a way to get some food in your fridge…the rest of the adjustment can come with time. Also, I just have to say that I love that you noted your cabbie’s nationality…I love how multicultural the DC cabdrivers are and how you always learn something from them.
Theresa – Likewise!
DC! Yay! Maybe we can have a big meetup in NY or something this fall. Also, http://parisianspring.blogspot.com/ is in your neighborhood now (or just about).
Christine – That would be cool! Was actually thinking of possibility going sometime mid to late October to see Julie & Fran.
Welcome back! Don’t worry, you’re not all traveled out. The travel bug is a voracious species.
