This summer has been nothing short of a whirlwind of activity. While I was relatively anchored down (only traveling to Sweden and Nigeria), it’s been one of huge transitions: planning an intercontinental wedding, working on new assignments that came flooding in as well as burning the oil on the day job.
Early last year, I’d sent in some pictures for consideration in an online gallery of a major UK news network (you know which one). Just heard from them citing interest last week (over a year later) but the pictures had become too old to use. But the cool part is the editor liked my work and told me to get in touch weeks before my next trip to Africa to work on possible paid photo assignments.
Been writing quite a bit lately with a couple key pieces coming out this fall in four glossy magazines and other online publications. Just sent in drafts so I really can’t reveal until they’re finalized, but to say I’m super excited is a gross understatement.
I feel truly grateful and blessed.
The post Mission for 2009 I wrote about focus constantly keeps coming back to mind. While watching the projects I have on hold has been a little painful (oil painting/exhibitions, my comic strip Office Supplies, and freelance project Lemurworks), focusing on a few projects at a time has improved the overall quality of work produced and helped me to creatively tap in deeper.
While I’m planning on revamping those three projects in 2010 by God’s grace (as well as Geotraveler’s Niche – watch out!), I’m looking forward to that even bigger transition – married life.
On a side note, you can read my reflections on the recent violence in Nigeria on Matador Pulse.

Wow, Lola, you’re owed a huge congratulations. I’m so impressed. Those are some top notch publications you’re appearing in. I have to admit to a bit of jealousy. I think when we return home and I get back into the writing game I’m going to have to hit you up for some advice.
And of course a huge congratulations on the marriage. I’m so happy for the two of you. Here’s to a long life together full of laughter and shared adventure.
Theresa – I wish I were on the road traveling long term like you guys! What an amazing experience. Absolutely hit me up anytime. Congrats again on the guidebook gig!
