The Realities of Travel Writing

November 23, 2009

Ha, Travel Writing, the quintessential dream job.

If you don’t already know this by now, travel writing isn’t as glamorous as it sounds on..well..paper. Breaking into certain publications can take years. You learn to handle rejections without taking them personally. Heated debates continue to wage about whether taking press trips taints you as a travel writer. Landing that travel memoir book deal can be challenging. Your expenses usually outweigh your compensation.

That said, it is also a fulfilling career for those of us who love the art of travel.

So over at the Travelers Notebook, an excellent resource for the best narrative travel writing out there, a new video series would feature various travel writers and their take on the profession.

Here’s the first super cool video from travel writer and TV host Robin Esrock.
