This morning, I received a text message from my husband while sitting in Swedish class:

“Massive news, 8.9 earthquake in Japan, devastating tsunamis in the whole pacific. Unbelievable images of tsunami, never seen anything like it. Just horrible.”

What? I wasn’t sure how to process what he was saying, and it wasn’t until I got home and saw these videos on TV that I actually broke down. I watched it happening in real time.

There are a few times when it’s been difficult for me to mentally process a natural disaster of such a mind-blowing magnitude.

This time around, I got it loud and clear.

How You Can Help

The Huffington Post has compiled a list of ways you can donate to the relief efforts – the best you can do at this point.

Here are just a few:

- Visit Redcross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 from your phone.

- Donate to Save The Children.

- Donate to The Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Fund.

And of course, if you’re a believer, get on your knees tonight and say a prayer or two.

Horrific – and they have just said on the news that the reactor walls have gone, and think it’s only a matter of time before it all goes up. Scary stuff.
